UKCA UK Energy Efficiency Certification
After Brexit, the British government is committed to continuing to support consumers to save energy by purchasing energy-saving products. The Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy) negotiated with stakeholders and decided to continue using energy labels. The rapid development of modern technological innovation makes products more energy-efficient and more efficient than 5-10 years ago, which means that energy efficiency can no longer be measured by the same original scale. Therefore, the energy label rating has been reset to more clearly show the efficiency difference between today's products. The UK has adopted EU regulations before Brexit. Therefore, like the member states participating in the EU, the UK will enforce new labeling directives for the following types of products in 2021.
The UKCA energy label for lighting products will be introduced from March 1 to September 1, 2021, and new labels will be implemented in the following five categories of products in 2021:
1. Household refrigerators
2. Washing machine, washing and drying dual-function machine
3. Dishwasher
4. TV and monitor
5. Lighting source
The new and old standards for energy efficiency certification of lighting sources are as follows:
Old standard: The Ecodesign for Energy-Related Products and Energy Information (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2019 of 8th March 2019
New standard: The Ecodesign for Energy-Related Products and Energy Information (Amendment) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020 (Draft)
The United Kingdom will adopt the re-adjusted energy label (EU 2019/2015) for lighting products from September 1, 2021. At present, the British government needs to conduct public consultation.
