GS

Overview

GS means Geprufte Sicherheit in German (safety has been certified), and it also means Germany Safety (German Safety). GS certification is based on the German Product Safety Law and is a voluntary certification for testing in accordance with the European Union's unified standard EN or German industrial standard DIN. It is a German safety certification mark recognized in the European market.

Although the GS mark is not mandatory by law, since the safety awareness has penetrated into ordinary consumers, an electrical appliance with the GS mark may be more competitive than ordinary products in the market. In the German market, if the goods sold do not meet the GS requirements, it will be difficult to sell in Germany. Although GS is a German standard, it is recognized by most European countries, and while the product meets the GS certification, it will also meet the requirements of the EU CE-LVD certification.

Application requirements

GS certification does not consider EMC requirements. EMC directives or standards will not be reflected in the GS certificate, but EMF needs to be considered.

GS = Security + EK resolution (if applicable) + EMF (if applicable) + PAHs (if applicable) + LFGB (if applicable) + DMF (if applicable) + factory inspection.

GS certification requirements for products and documents:

1. Labels & Instructions (English, German)

2. Circuit schematic

3. PAB Layout and silk screen

4. Exploded diagram and BOM table corresponding to the exploded diagram

5. List of key components and certificates

6. Specification (transformer, motor, LED)

7. The product must pass the European safety standard type test.

8. The product structure must meet the standard requirements.

GS certification has strict requirements on the factory quality assurance system, and the factory must be reviewed and annual inspection:

1. The purpose of factory inspection is to strictly control the production procedures of certified products to ensure that the batch products are completely consistent with the type test samples.

2. The factory inspection is divided into the first factory inspection and the annual factory inspection.

3. Factory inspection mainly includes incoming material inspection, warehouse management inspection, production process inspection and product delivery inspection, maintenance and calibration of test equipment

4. After the certificate is issued, the factory must be inspected at least once a year. No matter how many GS marks the factory applies for, the factory inspection by an organization only needs to be once.

The difference between GS and CE

GS CE

Voluntary certification non-compulsory Compulsory

Applicable to German safety regulations for testing GS Applicable to European standards (EN) for testing

Tested by a third party authorized by the German government and issued a GS mark certificate. CE can be declared on the premise of having complete technical documents (including test reports)

Must pay annual fee No annual fee

Factory inspection must be carried out every year No factory inspection required

The GS mark is issued by an authorized testing unit, which has high credibility and market acceptance. The factory's self-declaration of product conformity has low credibility and market acceptance.
